The politics of breastmilk substitutes regulation in Africa: Kenya in comparative perspective
My research focuses on the contribution of Africa towards global standards and recommendations on breastmilk substitutes (BMS) regulation with a focus on the political factors surrounding the introduction and spread of BMS use in Africa and the eventual push for its regulation. I explore the politics underlying BMS regulation in Kenya, as one of the more advanced African countries in this regard. Further, I investigate the politics of the enforcement of BMS policies and regulations in Kenya, emphasizing on the role of relevant institutions and actors, and their influence on enforcement outcomes.
